MADPET (Malaysians Against Death Penalty and Torture) advocate and campaign for the abolition of Death Penalty and all forms of Torture. MADPET has always been actively against, amongst others, torture, police abuse of powers, deaths in police custody and the shoot to kill attitude of the police . MADPET strives for greater protection to ensure a fair trial and is totally in support for the formation of an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).
MADPET (Malaysians Against Death Penalty & Torture)
MADPET is concerned with human rights and justice issues. It has been actively promoting the abolition of death penalty, and by its efforts it has also managed to get the 12,000 over strong Malaysian Bar to adopt a Resolution for the abotion of death penalty in March 2006, and have also managed to get the issue into the main stream media, both print and electronic. Besides that MADPET is also involved in the issue of death in custody, torture, abuse of powers by the police and other enforcement authorities, migrant rights, animal rights, rights of religious minorities and recently also the rights of disabled persons.
